STMT89942-8B Technical Specifications

The tool is designed for 17 mm across-flats hexagonal nuts and bolt heads. The 17 mm dimension refers to the wrench opening, not the diameter of the bolt thread. Match it to the actual fastener head before placing an order.

Why Choose This Ratcheting Combination Spanner?

Repeated fastening with less repositioning

With a standard fixed ring spanner, the tool generally needs to be lifted and repositioned between strokes. The STMT89942-8B's ratcheting ring end allows repeated short turns while maintaining engagement. Its published 5° increment is useful when nearby components limit the handle's available movement. The tool still requires sufficient clearance for safe engagement and a controlled hand stroke.

Two working ends for different access conditions

The fixed open jaw can be useful for initial positioning or access where a ring cannot pass over a fastener. The ring end is suited to repeated turning of a properly fitting fastener. Both ends are sized for 17 mm fittings; this is not an adjustable wrench and does not cover an entire metric size range.

Full-polished chrome-vanadium construction

STANLEY's product chart describes chrome-vanadium steel, a full-polished finish and its Maxi-Drive system, intended to help reduce fastener rounding with proper engagement. Use the right size and good-quality fasteners: no wrench design makes worn or rounded heads safe to overload.

Where the 17mm Ratcheting Spanner Fits

This model is appropriate for maintenance technicians, automotive service personnel, equipment fitters and workshop teams regularly handling 17 mm hexagonal fasteners. Typical task settings include accessible automotive brackets, non-critical machine covers, fixture adjustment and routine plant maintenance. These are application examples, not an assurance that every machine or vehicle fastener uses 17 mm heads.
For repeated loosening or tightening in a confined area, the ratcheting end can reduce tool removal between strokes. For a seized fastener or very high initial breaking torque, assess the fastener and select an appropriate non-ratcheting tool instead of overloading the ratchet mechanism.

Choose the Right Tool Before Ordering

Confirm the 17mm hex size, not only the bolt designation

Different fastener standards and assemblies can use different head sizes for the same nominal thread diameter. Measure the nut or bolt head across its flats. This wrench is not appropriate for a 16 mm, 18 mm or imperial hex merely because it looks similar.

Ratcheting spanner versus standard combination spanner

A standard combination spanner has a fixed ring end and an open end; it is straightforward for conventional turning. This STANLEY model adds a ratcheting ring mechanism for faster repeated motion, especially when the available swing is limited. A flexible-head or pivoting-head spanner is a different design; do not choose this model on the assumption that its head articulates.

Know the torque limitation

This is a manual wrench, not a calibrated torque wrench. It does not provide a certified tightening-torque reading or an exact final-torque setting. Follow the equipment manufacturer's tightening procedure and use a calibrated torque wrench where a controlled final torque is specified. Avoid hammering, impact use, side-loading and added extension pipes.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is STMT89942-8B a 17mm ratcheting combination spanner?

Yes. STMT89942-8B identifies STANLEY's 17 mm metric ratcheting combination spanner, with a fixed open jaw and a ratcheting ring end.

2. Does the Indus MegaMart price cover one spanner or ten?

The current National Product Page presents the offer as a pack of 10 pieces. Check the displayed pack price and GST breakdown before completing the order; do not interpret it as the price of a single loose piece.

3. How long is the STANLEY STMT89942-8B?

Its listed overall length is 222.5 mm. Check nearby obstructions to make sure there is enough room to use the handle safely.

4. What material and finish does it use?

The specified material is chrome-vanadium steel, and the tool has a full-polished finish.

5. Can it operate in limited swing space?

Its ratcheting ring end has a published 5° operating increment, which can help in restricted-access fastening. It still requires suitable room to seat and move the wrench.

6. Does this spanner have a flexible head?

This model is shown as a conventional combination spanner with a fixed-head configuration. Choose a separately identified flexible-head model if the ring needs to pivot around an obstruction.

7. Can I use the 17mm spanner to set an exact tightening torque?

No. It is not a calibrated torque-measuring tool. Use the assembly's specified tightening procedure and a suitable torque wrench when exact final torque matters.

8. Can I order if the quantity required is greater than available stock?

Yes. Indus MegaMart's ordering policy accepts paid orders even when stock is insufficient or zero. Delivery is within 7 days for quantities within available stock, and 7–14 days when the ordered quantity exceeds available stock, subject to the delivery PIN code being serviceable.

9. Can I buy this 10-piece pack for delivery in Ranchi?

You can place an order through the exact National Product Page. Enter the destination PIN code to confirm delivery serviceability for your Ranchi address before checkout.
