STANLEY 70-936E Technical Specifications

Additional Manufacturer-Listed Dimensions

The STANLEY specification diagram provides the following dimensional references for model 70-936E:

These measurements follow the manufacturer's drawing labels and are useful when comparing the tool with an engineering or purchasing specification.
For close-clearance applications, compare the required access dimensions against the actual tool drawing and surrounding equipment clearance.

Open-End and Ring-End Design

The STANLEY 70-936E combines two commonly used spanner-end formats in a single tool.

Open-End Jaw for Side Access

The open-end jaw can be positioned onto a suitably sized hexagonal fastener from the side.
This can be useful where another component, a shaft or the surrounding assembly prevents a ring end from being slipped over the fastener.
The open-end portion has an anti-slip design. For effective engagement, the jaw must fit the fastener correctly and be positioned fully before force is applied.

Ring End for More Enclosed Engagement

The ring end surrounds more of the hexagonal fastener than an open-ended jaw.
Where access permits, this can provide a useful alternative for loosening or tightening compatible nuts and bolts.
Select the correct approach and ensure the ring is properly seated before turning the fastener.

Maxi-Drive and Chrome-Vanadium Construction

STANLEY lists Maxi-Drive technology as a feature intended to help reduce fastener rounding.
The spanner is made from chrome-vanadium steel and has a matte finish with corrosion-protection features.
These are construction and design characteristics; they do not establish a particular certified maximum torque or immunity to damage under misuse.

How to Check Whether a 6mm Spanner Fits Your Fastener

The 6mm size refers to the distance across opposite flats of a matching hexagonal nut or bolt head.
It does not automatically mean the fastener has a 6mm threaded shank.
For example, bolts and nuts may have different across-flats dimensions depending on the fastener standard and head design. Select the spanner according to the actual hex-head dimension, not the thread designation alone.

Check the Fastener Before Purchasing

Before ordering STANLEY 70-936E, confirm:

• The fastener has a compatible 6mm across-flats dimension.
• The working space allows either the open-end or ring-end portion to engage.
• A manual spanner is appropriate for the task.
• The fastener is not so rounded or damaged that an ordinary spanner cannot grip it reliably.
• The maintenance procedure does not require a separately specified torque-controlled or specialist tool.

If the head measures 7mm or 8mm across flats, select the correct larger spanner rather than forcing the 6mm model.

Applications for the STANLEY 6mm Combination Spanner

Small Mechanical Assemblies

The 6mm combination spanner can be used for suitable small hex fasteners in mechanical assemblies, brackets and accessible fittings.
Its usefulness depends on the actual fastener size, required force and tool clearance.

Workshop Servicing and Maintenance

Workshops may use this size when maintaining equipment containing matching small metric nuts or bolt heads.
Having both an open end and ring end on one tool gives a technician two engagement options without changing to another spanner type.

Equipment Panels and Mounting Hardware

Where suitable 6mm hex-head fasteners are used, the spanner can assist with accessible panel hardware, instrument brackets and mechanical mounting components.
For electrical enclosures, complete any necessary isolation procedure before working. This is an ordinary hand spanner and is not presented as an insulated tool for energized equipment.

Maintenance Tool Allocation

A ten-piece pack can be relevant when several technicians or workstations need the same 6mm combination spanner.
For procurement, determine whether each person or tool station needs an individual spanner and select the number of packs accordingly.

Correct Use and Handling

Using the correct tool size helps avoid unnecessary damage to the fastener and the spanner.

Avoid Incorrect Size Substitution

Do not use a worn or oversized jaw on a fastener simply because it can be positioned over the head.
A loose fit increases the possibility of slipping or rounding the fastener corners.

Do Not Use Improvised Extra Leverage

Do not strike the spanner with a hammer or extend its handle using a pipe unless the tool and procedure expressly permit that method.
The STANLEY 70-936E is a conventional manual spanner, not an impact tool or a calibrated torque instrument.
Where the equipment instructions specify tightening torque, use an appropriate torque wrench.

Inspect and Store the Spanner Properly

Check the open-end jaws and ring-end profile for visible damage before use.
After work, clean the tool and store it in a dry tool cabinet or suitable tool holder. Avoid unnecessary exposure to corrosive environments.
