STANLEY STMT96946 65mm Open-End Slogging Spanner in Lucknow

Product at a Glance

When Is a 65mm Open-End Slogging Spanner Useful?

The STMT96946 is selected for substantial fasteners where a normal small workshop wrench is not appropriate and a ring cannot conveniently pass over or fully surround the fixing. Its open jaw allows side entry around an accessible 65 mm hex head. Suitable scenarios may include servicing large machine assemblies, heavy maintenance fixtures and mechanical equipment—only when the fastener geometry, available swing space and maintenance method are compatible.
A 65 mm jaw size is the distance across opposite flats of the hex, not the bolt's nominal thread size. Confirm this measurement before ordering. A damaged or rounded nut, restricted swing space or a specification that demands measured final torque may require a different method or tool.

Open-End Slogging vs Ring-End Slogging — Which Should You Choose?

Use the open-end type when side entry to an appropriately shaped hex is necessary and the jaw can fully seat without excessive slip risk. A ring-end slogging spanner surrounds the hex and may be preferable when you can position the ring over the fastener and need a more encompassing engagement. The ordinary 65 mm single-end open-jaw spanner is a different tool class: do not assume it is approved for hammer striking just because the opening size matches. Select according to the equipment manufacturer's maintenance instructions and your site's striking-tool procedure.

Safe Use and Selection Checks

Confirm engagement and access

Check the 65 mm across-flats size with a suitable gauge, inspect the nut and fully seat the jaw. Do not attempt to strike a partly engaged tool or use an open jaw on a badly rounded fastener. Ensure surrounding components and people are clear of the intended movement.

Follow your approved striking procedure

If the job requires impact, use only the tool's intended striking surface and an appropriate hammer method according to site procedures. Wear site-specified eye, hand and body protection; inspect both tool and hammer for damage before use. Do not grind, weld or modify the spanner, and do not use a pipe extension or strike the open jaws. Stop work if the tool shows spreading, cracks or deformation.

Do not substitute for measured torque or safety-rated tooling

A striking spanner is not a calibrated torque wrench. For joints with a controlled final tightening torque, use the approved torque system and the equipment manufacturer's sequence. This tool is not described as electrically insulated or certified non-sparking; do not use it as such in energised work or classified flammable atmospheres.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is STANLEY STMT96946?

It is a 65 mm single-open-end slogging spanner used for appropriate heavy mechanical fastening work where a striking method is authorised.

2. What does 65 mm mean on this spanner?

The opening is intended for a hex nut or bolt head measuring 65 mm across flats. It does not indicate a 65 mm thread diameter.

3. Is STMT96946 an ordinary open-ended spanner?

No. It is identified as an open-end slogging/striking spanner. A standard open-jaw wrench of the same nominal size is not automatically approved for striking.

4. Can this tool be struck with a hammer?

Its slogging design is intended for controlled striking applications, but use is subject to the employer's work method, inspection and appropriate striking equipment. Never strike the jaws or damaged tool surfaces.

5. Can I use this instead of a torque wrench?

No. It cannot verify a specified final bolt-tightening torque. Use calibrated torque equipment when a procedure requires torque control.

6. How is open-end different from ring-end slogging?

An open end enters from the side; a ring end surrounds the hex. The available access, nut condition and operating procedure determine which is suitable.

7. Is it suitable for a 65 mm bolt?

Only if 65 mm is the measured across-flats head size and there is enough safe access. Nominal bolt thread diameter alone is not sufficient for selection.

8. Is the tool electrically insulated or non-sparking?

Do not treat it as insulated or certified non-sparking. Those classifications require specific documented ratings and different approved tooling.

9. Can I order one piece or a bulk quantity in Lucknow?

Check the live Indus MegaMart sale unit and current ordering options. Include the exact SKU and quantity when asking about a bulk purchase.

13. How should I inspect this spanner on receipt?

Check the model marking, nominal jaw size, condition of the jaws and striking end, supplied quantity and applicable invoice details before issuing it for use.

14. Can I use it on a rounded nut?

Avoid using it on damaged or rounded fastener heads where full, secure jaw contact is not possible; select a suitable recovery method.

15. How should I maintain it?

Clean after use, check for jaw spreading, cracking or impact damage, and store the tool dry. Remove damaged tools from service.
