STANLEY 71-644 Stillson Pipe Wrench 450mm (18 Inch) in Kolkata

Price, GST and How to Order STANLEY 71-644

The correct item is STANLEY model 71-644, nominal size 450mm / 18 inch. The manufacturer's individual product entry describes one pipe wrench, while its trade chart lists a catalogue MOQ of four pieces. That MOQ is a manufacturer trade reference—not proof that an Indus MegaMart checkout quantity represents a pack of four. Before payment, verify the seller's selected selling unit and the actual total number of wrenches, particularly when raising a multi-piece maintenance purchase order.

STANLEY 71-644 Technical Specifications

The 80mm jaw-opening figure comes from the STANLEY-branded product-size chart. It is not a promise that every nominal pipe size below 80mm can be gripped correctly: plumbing pipes are frequently identified by nominal bore rather than actual outside diameter. The 18-inch designation describes wrench length, not an 18-inch pipe diameter.

Where This 18-Inch Stillson Wrench Makes Sense

This model is intended to grip and rotate suitable round pipe surfaces. Examples include working on threaded metal-pipe assemblies during industrial plumbing, maintenance of mechanical utility connections, workshop pipe fitting and building-services repairs, when the pipe or fitting manufacturer permits the use of serrated gripping jaws.
Compared with a short pipe wrench, the 450mm handle changes the reach and manual leverage available to an operator. It may be useful when a smaller wrench has insufficient working length, provided the joint can safely be worked and there is sufficient clearance around the connection. The longer handle does not establish a published torque capacity, and extra leverage must never replace the correct tool or approved installation procedure for critical piping.

Selecting by Outside Diameter and Space

Measure the actual outside diameter at the intended grip location, then compare it against the maximum 80mm jaw opening. Allow for proper tooth engagement, jaw seating, pipe condition and room to rotate or reposition the handle. A statement such as “up to 2½-inch pipe” is not a substitute for an outside-diameter check, because nominal bore and actual outer diameter are different measurements.
Also inspect access near walls, flanges, adjacent pipelines and other obstructions. If you cannot seat the jaws correctly or swing the handle safely, a different wrench design or approved access method may be required, regardless of opening capacity.

Protect the Workpiece and Use the Tool Correctly

A Stillson wrench has serrated gripping teeth. Those teeth can mark or distort decorative chrome finishes, thin-wall tubing, softer metals and painted surfaces. For a connection that must remain unmarked, choose a suitable non-marring wrench or a fitting-specific tool. Do not assume it is appropriate for PVC/CPVC fittings or fragile components merely because they are round.
Fit the jaws securely and turn in the intended gripping direction with controlled hand force. Keep teeth free of debris, reposition if the grip slips, and follow the plant or site procedure for isolating and depressurising systems before maintenance. Do not lengthen the handle with an extension tube, strike the tool with a hammer or use it to claim calibrated tightening torque. This tool is not certified here for work on live electrical equipment.

Compare the STANLEY 71-644 with Smaller and Larger Stillson Models

The STANLEY chart distinguishes adjacent Stillson models by length and jaw opening, rather than by general claims about “heavy-duty” use:

Choose 71-644 when the 80mm opening and longer working handle suit the actual pipe outside diameter, access and task. Move down to a shorter option when available space is restrictive; compare the larger 71-645 when the workpiece exceeds the verified jaw opening, subject to checking the full job requirements. For hexagonal fasteners, consider a correctly sized spanner or socket instead of toothed pipe-wrench jaws.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the jaw-opening capacity of STANLEY 71-644?

The manufacturer's exact-model chart lists a maximum jaw opening of 80mm. This is a jaw measurement, not the nominal pipe bore. Verify the workpiece's outside diameter and secure jaw fit before use.

2. Is 71-644 an 18-inch or a 14-inch Stillson wrench?

STANLEY 71-644 is the 450mm / 18-inch model. Use the part number and the manufacturer product chart when ordering; an inconsistent label on one manufacturer webpage should not change the model specification.

3. Is the STANLEY 71-644 made from cast iron or aluminium?

The verified manufacturer specification identifies a cast-aluminium body and a forged hook jaw. It is not described as an all-steel or cast-iron-body wrench in the exact-model chart.

4. Does an 80mm jaw opening guarantee use on every 2½-inch pipe?

No. Pipe nominal size and actual outside diameter are not interchangeable. The wrench must also seat and engage correctly on the particular surface, with safe access around the joint. Check measured dimensions rather than treating a nominal pipe label as the fitment specification.

5. Is this a single wrench or a four-piece pack?

The manufacturer describes the individual product as one pipe wrench and separately lists four pieces as its catalogue MOQ. Retailer selling units vary. Confirm Indus MegaMart's actual number of pieces and checkout quantity before payment.

6. Can this wrench grip stainless steel or chrome-plated pipe without marks?

The toothed jaws can scratch or indent finished or softer pipe surfaces. When a finish must be protected, use a non-marring or component-approved gripping tool. Do not assume suitability from the wrench opening alone.

7. Can I place an order when the available stock is zero?

Yes. Indus MegaMart's order policy allows ordering and payment at zero stock. Its stated delivery period when requested quantity exceeds stock, including at zero, is 7–14 days. Check your delivery pincode and final purchase details.

8. Is there a torque rating or calibrated setting for 71-644?

No model-specific calibrated torque figure is established by the verified STANLEY product information. This is a manual pipe wrench, not a torque wrench. Use the correct procedure and a calibrated tool where a joint requires a specified tightening torque.
