What Is the STANLEY 70-384E?

STANLEY 70-384E is a double-ended metric ring spanner with 12 mm and 13 mm ring sizes.
Both ends use a bi-hex, or 12-point, profile. Unlike an open-end spanner, the ring surrounds the compatible fastener head, while the shallow offset creates clearance between the handle and the working surface.
This makes the tool relevant where a technician needs fixed 12 mm and 13 mm sizes together with ring-end engagement and moderate offset clearance.

Key Specifications of STANLEY 70-384E

Why the Shallow Offset Design Matters

A straight ring spanner can be difficult to operate when the fastener sits close to a flat surface, housing, bracket or nearby component.
The shallow-offset geometry raises the handle away from the fastener plane, providing additional working clearance while retaining a relatively low-profile design.
This can be useful for routine mechanical and maintenance work where the nut or bolt is accessible but the surrounding structure limits comfortable hand or handle clearance.
A shallow offset should not be confused with a deep-offset spanner. Where the fastener is deeply recessed or a larger obstruction must be cleared, a different spanner geometry may be more appropriate.

What Does the Bi-Hex 12-Point Ring Profile Do?

The ring ends use a 12-point, or bi-hex, profile.
For a compatible metric fastener, the additional engagement positions can make it easier to reposition the spanner when working space restricts handle movement.
The correct 12 mm or 13 mm end should always be matched to the actual fastener size. A correctly fitting fixed-size spanner is important for secure engagement and for reducing unnecessary damage to the fastener.

Chrome Vanadium Steel Construction

The 70-384E is listed in chrome vanadium steel.
CRV is widely used for professional hand tools because it provides the strength required for repeated manual fastening applications when the tool is used correctly.
This product should still be used as a hand spanner. It is not a substitute for impact-rated tooling or a calibrated torque wrench.

Where Can STANLEY 70-384E Be Used?

The exact use depends on the equipment and fastener size, but the 12×13 mm configuration can be relevant to:

Mechanical Maintenance

For routine tightening and loosening of compatible 12 mm and 13 mm metric nuts and bolts during equipment servicing.

Workshop Repair and Servicing

For technicians who repeatedly work with these two fastener sizes and prefer fixed ring-end engagement.

Equipment Assembly

For manual assembly and adjustment tasks where the applicable specification calls for 12 mm or 13 mm fasteners.

Automotive and General Mechanical Work

Where compatible metric fasteners are used and the shallow offset provides useful clearance around adjacent components.

Is the STANLEY 70-384E Right for Your Requirement?

Choose this model when the requirement specifically calls for:

• 12 mm and 13 mm metric fasteners
• a double ring-end spanner
• a 12-point / bi-hex profile
• shallow offset clearance
• a fixed-size hand tool
• an individual model that can be procured in Indus MegaMart’s current pack quantity.

Do not choose this model solely because it is a STANLEY spanner. Confirm the required fastener sizes and access conditions first.

Shallow Offset Ring Spanner vs Other Spanner Types

Compared with an Open-End Spanner

The 70-384E uses closed ring ends rather than open jaws. If rapid side access to a fastener is the primary requirement, an open-end design may be more appropriate.

Compared with a Combination Spanner

A combination spanner normally provides an open end and a ring end of the same size. The 70-384E instead provides two different ring sizes: 12 mm and 13 mm.

Compared with a Deep-Offset Ring Spanner

A deep-offset design provides greater separation from the fastener plane. The shallow-offset 70-384E is more relevant where only moderate clearance is required.

Compared with an Adjustable Spanner

An adjustable spanner can cover multiple fastener sizes. The 70-384E is a fixed-size tool intended specifically for 12 mm and 13 mm metric fasteners.
