STANLEY 87-796-23 Heavy-Duty Adjustable Spanner 18 Inch in Bhopal

Check the Right 18-Inch Model Before Ordering

This listing is for STANLEY model 87-796-23, a heavy-duty adjustable wrench also described as an adjustable spanner. The 18-inch size identifies the nominal tool class; it is not the jaw-opening measurement. The jaw capacity is 55 mm, so the critical fitment check is the nut or bolt head's across-flats dimension—not its thread diameter or nominal bolt designation. The listed overall length is 460 mm for this nominal 18-inch model.
Before selecting a quantity, compare the product code against your purchase requisition. If a tender or maintenance checklist specifies exact tool weight, formal standards documentation or a manufacturer warranty period, request confirmation for those items before finalising procurement.

STANLEY 87-796-23 Technical Specifications

The adjustable opening allows one wrench to accommodate different compatible fastener sizes. Hardened jaws and a soft grip are useful where the tool must be repositioned repeatedly; they do not make the spanner a calibrated torque-measuring device.

Where This Heavy-Duty Adjustable Spanner Fits

Machinery and Plant Maintenance

The STANLEY 87-796-23 can be considered for accessible nuts and bolts on machine bases, mounting hardware and general maintenance assemblies when the fastener head fits securely within the 55 mm jaw opening. Its length offers additional hand leverage compared with many smaller adjustable spanners, while also requiring more working room.

Fabrication, Installation and Workshop Work

For fabrication shops and installation teams handling varied hex-head hardware, an adjustable jaw helps reduce the need to change fixed-size open-end spanners for every diameter. Use an appropriately sized tool, maintain full jaw contact, and confirm any fastener-specific torque requirements separately.

Why Size and Access Matter

An 18-inch wrench is not automatically the best choice for every heavy-duty job. In restricted spaces, around delicate fittings or where there is a strict torque specification, a shorter correctly sized tool, fitted socket or calibrated torque wrench may be more appropriate. Choose based on accessible clearance, fastener geometry, required tightening method and operator control—not length alone.

Fitment and Safe Handling Considerations

Measure the across-flats dimension of the fastener and ensure it is no more than the wrench's 55 mm opening. Close the movable jaw snugly, seat both jaws fully against the nut and pull smoothly with the tool correctly aligned. An incompletely adjusted jaw may slip or damage fastener corners.
Avoid hammer blows, additional extension pipes, prying or sideways loading. Do not use this adjustable wrench in place of a calibrated torque wrench when specified tightening torque must be verified. For fittings with damage-sensitive surfaces, use a suitable dedicated spanner to reduce marking and slippage risks.

The listed maximum jaw opening is 55 mm. Check the fastener head's across-flats measurement and allow for a secure jaw fit rather than relying on thread size alone.

3. Is this the right tool for large machine fasteners?

It may be suitable for accessible hex fasteners that fit its 55 mm jaws. The required working clearance, fastener condition and tightening method must also be considered. It is not a substitute for a calibrated torque wrench.
